Wintergirls

I decided I wanted to read 15 books in 2015,
so I wracked my brain for books I'd been wanting to read.
I read Speak, by Laurie Halse Anderson, in high school
and loved it
and assumed I'd love Wintergirls as well.
I wasn't wrong.
I read the entire book in one 2.5hr flight.
The way she writes is so dark&haunting
yet so beautiful&realistic&raw.
The main character has an eating disorder
and the book basically documents her battle
along with a very significant event that has happened in her life.
I would definitely recommend it.

Portia Workout

Everyone who's anyone knows that Ellen DeGeneres is married to Portia de Rossi.

As an avid Unbearable Lightness reader, I obviously love Portia.

Recently on The Ellen Show,

Ellen showed a video of Portia working out to a Jane Fonda video.

(another actress who is majorly thinspirational)

If I was Portia,

I might not be the happiest that my wife posted a video of my butt for the world to see...

but if my butt&legs looked like hers, I might not care.

WGP Thin

One of my girlfriends gave me the White Girl Problems book to read.
A book by: Babe Walker
It's pretty hilarious.
She often talks about weight&body image and cracks me up.
Favorite Quotes thus far:
"I'd rather have someone tell me I looked sick, miserable, starving, or dead
than have someone tell me I looked healthy."
-On her maid saying she looked healthy
"Pussycat, you can be an educated woman and starve yourself
and still be just as interesting and beautiful as all those white trash celebrities."
-Tai Tai (her grandma)

Her website is pretty hysterical, too.
And I follow her on twitter.
I wish I had the time&money to live like Babe Walker...
worrying about fashion&image all day and living the high life.
Maybe someday.

Amazon Thinspo

My most recent Amazon Order:
An alarm clock for my guest bedroom
and some new books!
I've been reading a quirky holiday-themed
murder-mystery series by Leslie Meier lately
but I wanted some books with more depth.
And - obviously - some thinspo.

SI Thoughts

I got the boyfriend a Sports Illustrated subscription
(mostly for the other perks - like a cheap Madden game for his PS3)
and he excitedly receives them every week in the mail.
Last week
when I got home with our naughty Valentine's meal,
he came running in from the mailbox
with the Swimsuit Issue in hand.
Look at Kate Upton's boobs! They're unreal!
It's true... they do seem unreal...
especially after looking at last year's cover
with "last year's body"
who's boobs don't seem nearly as large.
And - all around - her body seems bigger in general.
We looked at her Antarctican spread
and both decided that she looked rather soft&thick.
Absolutely beautiful, obviously
but not toned in the slightest.
The next day
sports-talk-radio-station were questioning its viewers
on their opinions of the cover&spread.
And basically everyone agreed that she:
"could have looked better"
and
"Sports Illustrated didn't do her any justice."
I yelled at the dashboard
(like I usually do when listening to other peoples' comments)
arguing that that is both Kate&SI's intentions:
to promote the "real woman."
I think she may have even put on a few pounds
since the last time she was attacked for her weight.
She's known for her curves.
Her "natural body" is marketable.
That is her brand ... and she's owning it.
Now, I personally prefer to be tiny
and I think bones are far more beautiful than
bumps&blubber.
But, to each their own, I suppose.
Long-story-short:
there is no way Kate let Sports Illustrated publish "unflattering" photos.
She knows what she's was doing.

Cig-Free Bitch

I borrowed a book from a girlfriend Saturday morning
and
spent the weekend reading the whole thing.
Skinny Bitch.
I know, I know... cliche
and everyone's who's ever thought
they could be tiny has read it.
I found it kind of crazy that the opening page
discussed the need to quit smoking.
I haven't discussed it on my blog
...maybe because I was thinking:
if I don't make a big deal
I'll actually succeed.
But I guess I might as well say it out loud:
I haven't smoked a cigarette since December 30, 2012.
Not really because of any of the reasons listed
but I'll admit there are some great reasons to quit.
I'll get into other aspects of the book I liked&disliked
in later posts.
